PACES BENFIT BANK

Volunteers at PACES are trained as counselors for a web-based service called The Benefit Bank. They can help clients with a Quick Check to screen for potential eligibility for benefits such as SNAP (formerly called Food Stamps), Medicaid Health Insurance for children, families, pregnant women, disabled individuals and elderly persons, Prescription assistance for Seniors, FAFSA (federal student aid like the Pell Grant), TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and FI (Family Independence). If it appears that the client is eligible, the client can set up an appointment with the volunteer to complete the application. Other services available through The Benefit Bank include Voter Registration and filing of State and Federal tax returns. The Benefit Bank is a non-profit organization and clients are not charged for the service. Benefit applications are submitted to, reviewed and approved by the appropriate state agency, for example, DSS or DHHS.
